A note of thanks from Chairman Carol Williams

I would like to thank all of my committee members who helped put the Community Preservation Act (CPA)on the ballot and who worked so hard to support the campaign, and I would like to thank the voters of Rehoboth who supported this important issue. Whether you voted for CPA or not, I hope that we can prove to all that the Community Preservation Act is good for Rehoboth.

The CPA creates a dedicated fund to preserve the agricultural and natural resources of our town, but it also provides funding for historic preservation, for the development of recreational facilities, and for addressing affordable housing issues. This fund, matched  with state monies, will allow us to consider projects that the town would be unable to fund, especially in these economic times, and all projects will be brought before the voters of the town at town meeting for approval.

The present Agricultural and Natural Resources Council will continue to address land preservation issues, and we will no doubt work closely with the Community Preservation Committee. The Council has appreciated the town’s support in funding the Preservation Trust Fund over the past couple of years. However, with the Community Preservation Act now providing dedicated funding for our similar goals, we withdrew our request for funding through the Rehoboth Annual Town Meeting of April 13, 2009.
